In fact, Kaiya Eve Children's Couture was drawing so much interest that Lightner began having trouble keeping up with the demand. Running a company solo and raising a daughter (Kaiya, the source of her inspiration for whom her company was named) meant that the purse-strings were drawn tight. It was a chance (or perhaps, one might argue, "fate") phone call from an 11-year old girl in Georgia who fell in love with Dakota Fanning's Kaiya Eve skirt and wanted to order one like it. Although Lightner was no longer making the version that Fanning had worn, Lightner sent her a fluffy Pettiskirt from her new line, and the little girl was hooked. Over the course of the following year, the little girl from Georgia ordered every piece that Lightner made, until one day the little girl's father called Lightner at her LA studio. He was so impressed with the Kaiya Eve line and so thrilled at his daughter's delight that he offered to invest in Kaiya Eve Children's Couture, and 24 hours later had infused enough capital to give Lightner the big break that she'd dreamed of. The rest, as they say, is history.
