The Maclaren stroller company was started in 1965 with Owen Maclaren designing and patenting the first prototype baby buggy. The vintage style of blue and white stripes with the aluminum frame is popular even today. The 3D folding lightweight design was revolutionary when it was first introduced and it still remains an important prototype for the stroller industry.

Owen Maclaren is a former aeronautical designer and test pilot. The first Maclaren stroller was made in the converted stables of his farmhouse in England in 1967. As a retired aeronautical engineer and a grandfather, he knew that the buggy must be strong, safe, lightweight, and durable. He used his aeronautical knowledge and included modern construction materials like tubular aluminum to create a durable frame that could hold even a reasonably large child. The buggy weighed only 6 lbs and the 3D folding mechanism requires very little storage space, making the stroller very portable. This revolutionary design freed parents from the traditional pram.

By 1976, the company had begun producing the pram Buggy – a foldable pram, a carry cot and buggy all in one. In 1991, they created the Duette – the first umbrella folding twin buggy that can fit through a standard width doorway. Over 40 years, Maclaren is now a leading name in the stroller industry and all their products meet or exceed British and US safety requirements.
