Thomas B. Stanley, a dairy-farmer began transporting the best grades of lumber in 1924, from northeast United States via rail car to a small town in Southwest Virginia. Employing the finest furniture craftsmen he created his dream: affordable, durable and high quality furniture for American families. This is where Stanley Furniture took birth.
Mr. Stanley later went on to achieve many goals and served as Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the 1950s. He infused the company with his spirit of dedication and commitment to excellence.
Young America is the division of the Stanley Furniture Company that specifically caters to furniture for children, tweens and teenagers. The concept of youth furniture always meant furniture that was designed to last till the child outgrew it. But Young America’s built to grow concept revolutionized the youth furniture and it now means that the furniture transitions with the child, through its growing years and into its young adult life.
All the collections from Young America meet or exceed the current mandatory government and industry safety standards. Safety features that are essential to youth furniture such as tip restraints, automatic drawer stops and adjustable levelers are all adhered to. Keeping your child safe from lead-based paint and furniture finishes is also one basic precaution that Young America has pledged to ensure.
The making of furniture begins with the search for the finest raw material. This is hardwood (from leaf bearing trees – cherry, oak, ash, birch, maple, poplar) or softwood (from evergreen trees like pine) or a combination of both. The lumber is first chosen, then through a long process it is made wear, heat and humid-resistant. This process could take anywhere – from 2 to 6 months. Once ready it is cut into small pieces, sorted and matched for color only the best pieces are crafted into the furniture that Young America creates.
Young America has a passion for designs that work for children. From practical and functional to sophisticated and charming – each piece of furniture is unique and thoughtfully crafted for your child. Solid study tables with elegant hutches, charming dressers and nightstands, sturdy beds and storage units, spacious armoires and comfortable chairs. You name it, Young America has it.
